报告摘要:There exists a widely-held belief that an object’s geometric chirality dictates its chiral optical responses. Our study reveals that geometric and optical chiralities are profoundly different concepts and there are no definitive connections between them. That is, a geometrically chiral body can exhibit no optical chirality at all or even chiralities of opposite handedness when probed from different directions. We have constructed a framework that captures the essentials of optical chirality from a novel perspective of polarization singularities, out of which fundamental distinctions between optical and geometric chiralities naturally emerge. Our framework, armed with merged concepts of chirality, singularity and topology, has solved the problem of optimal optical chirality maximization with respect to incident angles.
报告人简介:刘伟博士分别于北京大学和澳大利亚国立大学取得物理学本科和博士学位,目前任教于国防科技大学前沿交叉学科学院。刘伟博士主要研究米散射理论并发掘其和对称、拓扑及奇点等原理和概念之间的隐秘关联。
